I'm remembering why it is that I don't do long form stories or novels-- I can do the lead ins, the lead up tos, and the with limited success, a proper ending for short stories, because they don't take forever on those first two parts.. With novels, you have carefully craft your plot, putting minute touches here and there, and making sure all the bits and pieces function together when you reach page 175 or 200 (and that's just being modest).. Too hard, man.
I'm currently struggling with the nanowrimo thing I'm doing... It was fairly simple to establish the plot early on in the intro, and then I got to chapter 1, and did the whole "oh, I'm a moody high school english teacher, I need to break out and do something important before I get too old to care" stuff, and that was smooth going too, I guess. But now I have to face the transitional period where something integral happens to the main character that incites him to action--
Hard to put it all together for the span of 50,000 words.. Strange though, it's really about the numbers for me. If I were to just do this thing for something reasonable like 5-10,000 words, I could get my mind on where things needed to be because of the nature of the story.
Shorts are just easier and less tasking.
Eh, that's why they call it a challenge though, right?
